How to calculate running pace

Running pace is the time it takes to cover a unit of distance, usually expressed as minutes per kilometre (min/km) or minutes per mile (min/mi). Divide your total running time by the distance covered to calculate your average pace.

For example, running 10 kilometres in 49 minutes and 10 seconds gives an average pace of approximately 4:55 per kilometre.

How to calculate your finish time

Multiply your target pace by the distance you plan to run. At 5:00 per kilometre, for example, a 10K takes 50 minutes and a half marathon takes approximately 1 hour 45 minutes and 29 seconds.

These calculations assume you maintain the same average pace throughout the distance. Hills, weather, terrain and fatigue can all affect your actual finish time.
